There are increasing numbers of young people who, because of environmental or other factors, do not 'fit' within the mainstream schooling system and either refuse to attend school or attend on an irregular basis.
Logan YMCA and the YMCA Vocational School offer an education alternative to these young people. The school offers a standard education curriculum with the added advantage of accredited vocational training. Focusing on education engagement the school provided young people with the opportunity to learn about themselves in Mind, Body and Spirit. Feeling good about yourself and accepting who you are and being happy is the key to a health productive life. With the assistance of volunteers from the local community, young people will undertake various skill and confidence building activities that can assist them to gain sustainable employment, education and motivation to approach the rest of their lives.
Ultimately, the aim is to break the cycle of disadvantage by showing the young people that there are opportunities and experiences that differ from those that they are accustomed to in their existing life situations.
How will the funds be used?
